Crisis Response Canine Breeds You Can Consider Adopting

Crisis response dogs are healthy, confident, mature, and trained to help people affected by and dealing with the aftermath of natural or manmade disasters.

They move in, respond intelligently to crowded and stressful circumstances, and try to comfort the victims. It could be a hurricane, tornado, flood, fire, shooting, or even explosion, but still, an active crisis response canine will be ready for service.

Such a dog can help calm the chaos and facilitate emergency services to finish their tasks. This background can give you an impression that crisis response canines may be large and of military breeds; however, any pup can assume this role provided it has particular characteristics and skills.

Search crisis response dogs online, and you will be surprised to see how many well-known breeds can be trained to be crisis response pups. Regardless of the breed and need for raising a puppy, know that every four-legged baby requires quality health care during testing times of health apart from basic life needs.

Consider being equipped with the best pet insurance, even if it means paying a little more when compared to cheap pup insurance policies, so your canine companion’s health is comprehensively covered.

Meanwhile, read this article to learn about qualities a dog should possess and some breeds that can qualify to be a crisis response pup.

    Qualities a dog should possess

Regardless of the pedigree, a dog should have the below-mentioned qualities so it can be trained to be a crisis response dog.

    • Doesn’t panic in highly populated places and situations.
    • Ability to maintain calm under stress.
    • Stays comfortable in the presence of strangers.
    • Extrovert and well-socialized.
    • Quick learner.
    • Timely response to commands.

If you feel you and your poochie can do this together, consider training in psychological first aid and other concepts. Once you both finish the training, give an exam and obtain certification.

When unsure about your abilities, it is ok to step back. However, your pooch can still partner with a handler and participate in rescue missions.

Some dog breeds can be ideal for this role due to their size, trainability, and agility, but every dog is unique and may have traits that can be of utmost importance than mere purebred status or lineage.

Having said that, it is best to select fairly reliable dog breeds for crisis response tasks because nobody wants to take a chance when many lives are involved. For instance, Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Jack Rusell Terrier, Border Collie, and French Bulldog are some dog breeds that fit well into the shoes of crisis response dogs.

Consider adopting one of the above dog breeds and many others that suit crisis response dog qualifications. Do the things necessary so they can be inducted into the crisis response team when the need arises.

But, while your pup stays home, it will still be your best companion and requires your care and attention. Consider being prepared with the best pet insurance so your four-pawed friend gets the medical care it deserves during dire health situations and emergencies.

When the best policy can support your canine with optimal health coverage, why purchase cheap pup insurance and settle for less?
